Dear Jackson R-2 Families,

As you know, we live in times where information is constantly changing. It was our hope to provide in-person summer school for K-6 students in June. At this time, the backup dates for elementary and middle school summer learning which are July 6th - 24th will be the new proposed dates for these grades. Our incoming kindergarten students will choose a morning or an afternoon session and attend the entire 15 days of summer school. Transportation will not be provided but meals will be served and After School Kids' Club will be offered.

High school and Junior High will still offer virtual summer school beginning May 28th - June 18th. The High School also plans to offer on-site courses (if possible) June 25th - July 17th.

More detailed information regarding enrollment will be sent to families and available on our website as soon as possible.

If in-person summer school is offered for K-6 students, class sizes will be reduced as much as possible. Proper hand-washing and hand sanitizing will also be enforced to provide the maximum safety for our students.

The District is also determining the feasibility of hosting a June Kids' Camp for students entering PK-6th grade. The cost would be $27/day and the proposed dates are June 8th-26th. Please complete this short survey to help us determine the interest in providing a June Kids' Camp.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to bring you as much information as we can at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience that is imposed on families, as we are truly all in this together. As a District, we are always working to provide the safest environment for our students and staff as possible. We will monitor updates and recommendations from local, State, and National authorities to make the most informed decisions as possible. We will keep families up to date on all school-related information.

Online Physical Education The purpose of this course is to gain a better understanding of the influence physical activity has on a person's fitness and health and to achieve a higher level of fitness. Students will use an activity log and additional ways to track activity.

STEM Are you interested in using your creativity to design, engineer, construct, and test the limits of the laws of physics? If your answer is yes, then this is the class for you. This class will provide the opportunity for students to develop their interest and understanding of the world of 'Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in the activities of machine construction, coding, and innovative techniques in designing inventions. In addition there would be no STEM if there were no PHYSICS. This portion of the class will allow students to use their imagination in designing everything from a simple machine to a trebuchet, from complex bridges to accomplishing simple tasks through a crazy and creative Rube Goldberg design. Consider this class this summer.

History & Sports Students will learn about pivotal moments in sports such as Jesse Owens, George Washington throwing the long rod, Miracle on Ice, Michael Jordan and Nike, Steroid Baseball, 1972 Summer Olympic games Soviet Union vs USA, Flo Jo, Mo'ne Davis, Manon Rhéaume, Lance Armstrong, and much much more. These events shaped the culture and world politics.

Tempting Trumans This course is for all book lovers! You will be reading some of next year's Truman nominees this summer. There are 12 Trumans--and I'd like you to read 3 or 4 of them while in this summer course. We will also be collaborating to think of rewards for students who participate in the Truman reading program, as well as writing some of the quiz questions for the book quizzes. If you like to read, join me in this summer course!

Guitar Students will have virtual guitar lessons through videos and online conferences. Students may rent a guitar from JAMS if needed. Contact Mr. Allen at ballen@jr2mail.org for more information.

Scholastic Showdown Review a variety of school subjects including math, science, social studies and ELA and then use your skills to help your team battle the other teams in our weekly scholastic showdown.

Statistics in Sports Who is the greatest NBA player of all time? Who is the better QB, Pat Mahomes or Lamar Jackson? Which players should the Cardinals start in the outfield this year? In this class we will be looking at how to answer these questions, and others, through statistics and data. Additionally, we will use fantasy sports (such as fantasy baseball and fantasy football) to encourage the gathering, analysis and understanding of data.
